Waterford Gateway

Waterford Gateway is developing to provide the range of infrastructure and services required to ensure that the South East Region can compete in the modern, global economy. Key infrastructure include:

Each of these services and facilities will benefit from significant investment in the short, medium and long terms.

Waterford County Council is working to ensure that the potential of Waterford as a Gateway can be fully realised. Specific projects include:

  • The development of the Waterford Ring Road, which starts at Kilmeaden
  • The provision of a new campus for Waterford Institute of Technology
  • Improved air access at Waterford Regional Airport.

Waterford County Council continues to facilitate development of the Gateway. As illustrated below, the County Council has zoned lands to accommodate strategic developments. The potential of these sites is broadly recognized, with IDA Ireland and Waterford Institute of Technology both developing well designed high profile campuses in the area. In addition, the Whitfield Clinic will open a state-of-the-art medical centre in this emerging, modern precinct of the Gateway.
