Portlaw

Portlaw is situated approximately 38km from Dungarvan, 15km from Waterford City and 8km from Carrick-on-Suir at the head of the River Clodiagh, a tributary of the Suir. A picturesque location, the Town is bounded by the River Suir to the north and the Comeragh Mountains to the West.

Portlaw is favoured with a number of fine buildings, structure and sites of architectural merit, historical and scientific significance, which combine to add to the unique character of the Town. Portlaw is emerging as a preferred place to live. Between 2002 and 2006 the population of the Town grew by 28.9% to 1,393. It is forecast that Portlaw will continue to grow, and the zoned sufficient land to accommodate continued growth to 2008, by which time a new plan will be prepared.

Infrastructure

Road
Portlaw is linked to the National Route/Euro Route (N25/E30) by the Regional Road R680, via Kilmeaden, and within 4km of Fiddown Bridge giving access to the N24 National Road to Kilkenny and Dublin.

Telecommunications
A trunk-and-junction fibre optic cable bypasses Portlaw, linking Clonmel and Waterford City, with a spur into Portlaw following the Carrick road into the centre of Portlaw town. As such, the industrial zoned lands are ideally located to avail of existing diverse telephony services and Eircom have indicated the possibility of further connection to this fibre, subject to demand.

Electricity
An ESB 38kv sub-station has been constructed at Coolroe.

Gas
A trunk main gas pipeline (running between Clonmel and Waterford City) is located to the east of the town at Mayfield/Knockane Td. Whilst gas as alternative form of energy does not form part of an existing service to the town, Bord Gais has indicated an interest in supplying in Portlaw, subject to demand.
