Towns throughout County Waterford enjoy an extensive and competitive telecommunications and broadband services. DSL, Wireless and Satellite broadband services are available in the key urban centres of Dungarvan and Tramore, where services are provided by BT, Eircom, Digiweb, Imag!ne Broadband, Cinergi and Perlico. In addition, local entrepreneurs provide broadband services to businesses and households in Dungarvan. The National Broadband Scheme was announced by the Government in December 2008. The scheme will bring high-speed broadband to rural areas of County Waterford. This will add to the excellent broadband infrastructure and service available in our main towns to ensure that all areas of the County is served with a top-class, high speed broadband infrastructure. Waterford County Council has adopted a strategic county-wide approach to further enhancing the competitiveness of the telecommunications market in County Waterford. We have invested significantly in the backbone infrastructure of the Waterford. This infrastructure, which is available to telecoms companies, will reduce the cost of providing broadband services to public and private users, be they businesses or households.
